Climate Change

The climate crisis is accelerating exponentially and impacting all areas of the globe. Melting sea ice and icebergs in Antarctica are warming ocean temperatures across the planet, raising sea levels and contributing to the worsening of cyanobacteria blooms as far away as Florida.

The drought and flood cycle is becoming more extreme in Bangladesh; hundred year floods are predicted to happen every one to thirty years in coastal areas such as Bella Coola, BC, and coastlines are losing trees that protect shorelines. On one trip to Iceland I saw a frozen landscape almost completely melt in a single twenty-four hour rainstorm.

There is no escaping the impacts of warming temperatures, floods, and fires threatening the lives of both humans and creatures. When animals cannot adapt, they face extinction, and every year there are more human climate refuges.

Photography is a powerful medium in which to convey what is happening and as a poetic climate photographer, I feel it is my responsibility to show the ways in which I have seen the landscape altered by rising temperatures, storms, fires, and other climate events.
