Florida's Changing Waters:
A Beautiful World in Peril

“Fabulous book, full of well-printed wonderful images. While there are many outstanding images, the one on the front dust jacket that is on page 201 is a knockout. Although the subject matter is different, reminds me of some of Eliot Porters work.” —Robert Anderson, Owner of the Robert Anderson Gallery, Denver, CO

Florida's Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril not only showcases the beauty, diversity, and complexity of Florida’s waters, but also documents the negative effects of agricultural and industrial pollution, a growing population with its urban growth and land development, and climate change on Florida’s inland and coastal waters and springs. Though her work is place specific, the book reveals the interconnected and global nature of environmental problems.

The book, published by George F. Thompson Publishing includes an essay and text by Lynne, as well as essays by Jason M. Evans, an associate professor of environmental science and studies at Stetson University in Deland, Florida and Robert L Knight the Executive Director of the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute. Coinciding with the publication of the book are signings in Florida sponsored by members of the Waterkeeper Alliance, Stetson University, and the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute. Lynne spoke about the book prepublication at the North American Nature Photography Summit in Las Vegas in February 2019.

“With unspoken irony, Lynne Buchanan’s photographs expose the toxic destruction of Florida’s inland waters and coastal areas in a devastating indictment of unrestrained industrialization and reckless development. She has crisscrossed the state to find and bear witness to the devastation that we might see, understand, and be moved to action to remediate the situation in this state, which is a bellwether for the rest of the country.”

—Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
