Monet's Gardens in Giverny, A Feast for the Eyes...

Invitation to Monet's Gardens

Invitation to Monet's Gardens

When I arrived in Monet's Gardens in Giverny, this is one of the first sights that beckoned to me.  I was amazed by all the vivid colors and textures in the gardens, clearly so intentionally planted.  Ever since I was a small child, I have been fascinated by color and in fact that is one of the things I most frequently modify in my photographs to ensure that the images I create come close to my emotional and actual experience of being in nature.  Different brands of cameras actually have casts that affect the rendering of color in photographs and cameras are much more limited in capturing light and subtleties of color. Another thing that has captivated me all my life is texture.  Monet clearly felt the same way.  Although the photographs below do not possess the genius of Monet's work, they do capture a sense of what no doubt influenced him in these very special gardens. Enjoy this feast for the eyes...

These are just some of the colorful and tactilely inviting vistas I was blessed to witness on my recent trip to Giverny.  As I process more images, I will post them.  My dream is to go spend a week or a month there, taking in all these sights and expanding my sense of color and texture in both my photography and my painting.  No wonder this place was such a source of inspiration for both Monet and Joan Mitchell.
